FAA WATERCOLOR MARK DOES NOT APPEAR ON FINAL SALES
While in San Diego, California I was waiting by the ferry dock to take me to Coronado Beach when I was looking around and saw this bird which appeared to be a statue because it was never moving and with the water flowing up in the air at first I assumed it was just a fake bird! Then I saw it move and noticed that it had a leg that was backwards, I grabbed my camera and zoomed in on him and got a great shot of him standing still with all of his great details and froze the water pumping up into the air. The bird turned out to be a Black Heron who had broken his right foot and it grew back, backwards, but the bird was still able to walk around on it as if it had not been broken it was amazing. Whether poised at a river bend or cruising the coastline with slow, deep wingbeats, the Black Heron is a majestic sight. This stately heron with its subtle blue-gray plumage often stands motionless as it scans for prey or wades belly deep with long, deliberate steps. They may move slowly, but the Black Herons can strike like lightning to grab a fish or snap up a gopher. In flight, look for this widespread herons tucked-in neck and long legs trailing out behind. The Black Herons appear blue-gray from a distance, with a wide black stripe over the eye. In flight, the upper side of the wing is two-toned: pale on the forewing and darker on the flight feathers. A pure white subspecies occurs in coastal southern Florida.
