While visiting the Sands Point Preserve, every year around Labor Day the Preserve hosts a Renaissance Fair. The theme goes perfectly with the surroundings as there are three castles located on the premises with one called the Hempstead House sitting high on a cliff looking down on the Long Island Sound and across the Long Island Sound you can see the coast of Connectict. The castle that is right near the Hempstead House was designed after a castle in Kilkenny, Ireland and is now used for the horses and tourists information. The Renaissance Fair comes complete with knights, maidens, animals, sword fights and plenty of food and of course to finish it off a jousting contest. For this action contest I made sure I was right up in front of the rope, I put my zoom lens on and set my camera to shudder speed. I was able to capture to knights on several occasions jousting, here I captured them just before they hit each other with their jousting poles and the next shot was as their poles crashed into each other sending splinters of wood all over the place. I took this photograph and the next one when their jousting poles hit and published them to my web site. I hope you enjoy them.
