Along the north shore of Long Island in Sands Point, New York, which is also known as the gold coast of Long Island stands the famous Hempstead Castle which was designed by Howard Gould, son of railroad tycoon, Jay Gould. Howard Gould wanted to build a castle as a replica of a castle from Kilkenny, Ireland. Upon the castle being completed Gould named it Castle Gould, but then decided he did not like the first castle and build the Hempstead Castle which became the main estate on the property. Several years later Howard Gould sold the property to Daniel Guggenheim who switched the name of the Hempstead Castle to the Hempstead House but kept the original building name Castle Gould as Castle Gould.
