While on a striper fishing trip this past November 2014 with some of my friends, we left from Oceanside, New York located on the south shore of Long Island. As we pulled out of the inlets and towards the canals that would lead us out into the Atlantic Ocean and as we hoped onto some great striper fishing spots. Just as the captain began to put the throttle down to get us to our destination quickly he pulled back and told everyone to sit down on the charter boat, next he began to distribute the weight on his 38 foot charter boat as my four friends and I sat where he told us. I have been in these situations before where as you are cruising at a nice speed you have to come to an immediate hault it feels like as you spot rolling waves, large waves running off of underwater jetties and large wakes crashing into the boat. My four friends unfortunately had not been in a situation like this before and for a second I could see them wondering what they got themselves into. I quickly grabbed my camera and saw this as a great photo opportunity, I slipped out to the back of the boat and sat on one of the boats dry wells for bait, keeping my weight on the side of the boat the captain had told me to be. I quickly took several photos of the horizon and the waves and wake going up and down and crashing into the boat as the captain made his way slowly through this area. After getting by this area and capturing some great shots of the horizon and the sun's reflection on the ocean with great details of the ocean and its waves we were on our way to a great day of striper fishing with tempertures reaching into the fifty degree mark.
