While attending a Classic Car Show in August of 2013 which was being held in Hicksville, Long Island New York to raise money for Prostrate Cancer Research. I was able to enjoy these biggest Classic Car Show of the summer as close to 1000 cars came from everywhere to participate in this Classic Car Show that was racing money for a great cause. The show had every car from every year from the 1890's to the present and every time I turned the corner I was drawn to another great find. Here was a perfect example as I was leaving a row of convertible mustangs right at the end as I began to make my turn this Classic Car in mint condition appeared right in front of me, it was a 1970 Plymouth Dodge Superbird, with the a stuffed Roadrunner hanging out of the front window . The paint job was excellent with that bright orange that matched perfectly with the black vinyl top along with the extra large spoiler that had the roadrunner decal attached on the side of it and the word Plymouth right underneath the spoiler . The Superbird was long and was catching everyone's eye. It was set up with a beautiful green trees and bushes in its background with no other cars around it, to make for a perfect photo opportunity. For more information on this Classic 1970 Plymouth Superbird please feel free to read below and visit some of my other Classic Car Photos in my Car Portfolio.
The short-lived Plymouth Road Runner Superbird was a highly modified version of the Plymouth Road Runner with well known graphics and horn. It was the factory's follow up stock car racing design for the 1970 season to the Dodge Charger Daytona of 1969, and incorporated many engineering changes and modifications (both minor and major) garnered from the Daytona's season in competition on the track. The car's primary rival was the Ford Torino Talladega, which in itself was a direct response to the Mopar aero car. It has also been speculated[by whom?] one motivating factor in the production of the car was to lure Richard Petty back to Plymouth. Both of the Mopar aero cars famously featured a protruding, aerodynamic nosecone, a high-mounted rear wing and, in the case of the Superbird, a horn which mimicked the Road Runner cartoon character
