While attending a combination Drag Racing and Car Show for vintage cars pre-1940 I came across this classic 1915 Ford Model A, which had the outer body stripped down. The car did not have the long rolling fenders or running board. Instead this car had been re-built for one purpose and that was for speed on the drag racing circuits. Ironically this show was taken place several blocks from where I grew up in New Hyde Park on Long Island. After the cars had been adjusted and primed they went onto the drag strip which is really where the firetrucks practice their maneuvers. After the cars began to descend on the drag strip I went down and got a front row seat to see them do their practice runs and then race until there were only two left for the Championship. Ironically this 1915 Ford Model A came in third and did not get to compete in the final drag race of the day. It was a great day with a lot of interesting cars and some great action shots of the drag racing.
