Was able to recently get tickets and go to see one of my favorite bands in concert, Lynyrd Skynyrd, since one of the bands I was in did nothing but southern rock songs and we covered a lot of Lynyrd Skynyrd songs. The concert was held at the NYCB Theatre in Westbury, New York located on Long Island. In addition, to make things even better for that night I was able to sit in the front row and when I asked at the front door if I could bring my canon rebel camera in, the security guard said to my surprise, YES. For anyone who has never heard of or had the ability to attend a concert at the NYCB Theatre it is in a round forum and the stage slowly turns around so every seat in the house is a great one. In this particular photo I was able to get all four members of the guitar army of Lynyrd Skynyrd jamming to the classic song "Sweet Home Alabama", from left to right is Rickey Medlocke, Mark Matejka, Gary Rossington, (the only surviving member from the original lineup) and Johnny Colt on bass with his typical top hat . The concert was outstanding and the ability to sit in the first row and be allowed to take photos made that more special. For more information on this great band please feel free to read below;
Lynyrd Skynyrd (pronounced /ˌlɛnərd ˈskɪnərd/) is an American rock band best known for popularizing the southern hard-rock genre during the 1970s. Originally formed in 1966 as the The Pretty Ones in Jacksonville, Florida, they then went through two name changes: The Noble Five and One Percent, before coming up with Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1969. The band rose to worldwide recognition on the basis of its driving live performances and signature tunes "Sweet Home Alabama" and "Free Bird". At the peak of their success, three members died in an airplane crash in 1977, putting an abrupt end to the band's most popular incarnation.
The surviving band members re-formed in 1987 for a reunion tour with lead vocalist Johnny Van Zant, the younger brother of lead singer and founder Ronnie Van Zant. The re-formed band continues to tour and record with co-founding member Gary Rossington and core members Johnny Van Zant, along with guitarist Rickey Medlocke, who recorded with the band for a short time in the early 1970s. Drummer Michael Cartellone has recorded and toured with the band since 1999. Lynyrd Skynyrd was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame on March 13, 2006.
