While visiting the classic Old Westbury Gardens Mansion located in Old Westbury, New York on the north shore of Long Island I stopped and stood on the front lawn of this amazing piece of architecture. From where I stood I was able to capture the full size of the front of the mansion which showed the large front lawn, to the concrete barrier in front of the mansion to the gorgeous front of the house with its many windows, sun room to the right and three sets of chimneys. John Phipps asked Margaret Grace to marry him and she said on one condition you built me a mansion on Long Island that resembles an English Mansion from where they lived in England. So John Phipps did in 1906 and they were married. For more information on this amazing mansion please feel free to read the following information;
Old Westbury Gardens was home to John S. Phipps and his wife, Margarita Grace Phipps. Completed in 1906 this 44 room, Charles II style mansion was designed by George A. Crawley, an English architect. The house is furnished with English antiques, furniture and decorative arts once owned by the family. Situated on 200 acres the estate consists of formal gardens, landscaped grounds, fountains, ponds and a lake which are quite impressive. Old Westbury Gardens is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
