While on a visit to the San Diego Zoo I was fortunate enough to come across a herd of elephants, I wanted to capture one or as many as I could without seeing any gates or fences and try to show them in their natural habitat. I went around taking various photos and then I came across this large elephant maybe one of the largest of the herd who was stopping and throwing hay on his back to keep cool and then picking up this large piece of wood with his trunk and walking around with it. At the time I took this photo the elephant had just thrown some more hay on his back and had grabbed the piece of wood and began to ascend a small hill holding that piece of wood very tightly with his trunk. The atmosphere was very dry looking and there was even a piece of a dead tree in the elephant's way as he walked. The atmosphere gave a nice impression of his natural habitat.
