While attending my first classic car and truck show of 2013 I saw a lot of great cars obviously but what I started to see more and more of was these great hood ornaments that I had seen in the pass but never really took the time to photograph them, with the exception of a few. On this day while attending the Belmont Race Track Classic Car Show I decided I would seek out some of this great artistic hood ornaments and start a new gallery on my web site devoted to the artistic finishing touches that were put on the cars and trucks during the classic years or even some recent ones that have really stood out to this day. Along with adding paint jobs and emblems that were specifically done to these classic cars and trucks. In addition, I said I would research and find out as much as I could about the who's, what's and why's of these designs. The Greyhound Hood Ornament was designed by Henry Ford and his son and was put on the 1934 Ford Greyhound Two Door Sedan for a couple of dollars extra somewhere in the forty to fifty dollar range. The Greyhound was used to symbolize speed and the way it was designed was with the Greyhound racing through the air with both front legs lunging out into the air to emphasize the speed of the Greyhound and to promote the 1934 Ford Greyhound as a slick, fast car. One of it's first buyers was Clyde Barrow of Bonnie and Clyde fame, who even wrote a letter to Henry Ford letting him know, "What a fine car you got in that Ford V-8". This would be the same car Bonnie and Clyde would be killed in.
