While attending a Classic Car Show at Old Westbury Gardens located in Old Westbury, New York on the north shore of Long Island at is one of the premier if not thee premier Classic Car show each year I came across this classic 1930 Cadillac V-16 Imperial Limousine. The car was amazing it appeared to have rolled right off the assembly line that day. With this car Cadillac outdid itself with its V-12 Model and overtook the stylish Fleetwood. Even Al Capone purchased one for its re-enforced door panels and speed. But what really caught my eye as I was taking various angles of this beautiful classic car, was the remarkable hood ornament. Hood Ornament have become a favorite topic of mine as of late, because they always have great stories behind them and if you get to see an original it is probably worth more then the car. In this case, I got lucky this was the original Hood Ornament and out of the 72 produced for this short lived classic only 4 originals are known to still be around. Cadillac designed what in those days were called the Flying Ladies of Cars, this particular design after the car had actually started to be distributed on the street and was seen being driven my a movie actress from the 1930's and they designed the Hood Ornament to be a model of her and also to show the speed the V-16 Cadillac could go the actress Hood Ornament known only as Madame X is seen with her hair flying backwards and her holding on almost in the position of being pulled off the car due to its speed. I took several angles and one right in the front but this was my favorite. For more information on the Madame X Hood Ornament by Cadillac please feel free to read the information below;
Of all the luxury automobiles produced during the Depression, few if any, could surpass this 16-cylinder, 6000 pound Cadillac. Of the approximately 72 examples produced, only four are known to exist. The 'Madame X' designation was attached to the car after the heroine of a contemporary motion picture was pictured driving one.
