While attending an ice hockey tournament for my son in the month of April in Lake Placid, New York located in up state New York an unexpected 24 inches of snow fell on the small town of Lake Placid. On the exact week a year before this major snow storm hit the weather was spring like with tempertures hitting the 70 degree mark, in fact I have a photograph on my web site titled, "Lake Placid" taken from almost the same area except because the snow storm had just stopped when I took this photograph the streets and sidewalks were not passable yet. So I walked onto my 5th story hotel balcony and took a photograph of Lake Placid with the mountains in the background and a small glimpse of the two story buildings that make up the town of Lake Placid. The sky still looked like it had some more snow for us that day. Lake Placid is a village in the Adirondack Mountains in Essex County, New York, United States. As of the 2000 census, the village had a population of 2,638.
The Village of Lake Placid is near the center of the Town of North Elba, 52 miles (84 km) southwest of Plattsburgh. Lake Placid, along with nearby Saranac Lake and Tupper Lake, comprise what is known as the Tri-Lakes region. Lake Placid hosted the 1932 and 1980 Winter Olympics.
