While on vacation in the Poconos in the summer of 2013 I came across this very old cemetery that had caught my eye from the road as I was traveling into the town of East Stroudsburg. As I was walking around this one section of this old cemetery I started to notice that all of the tombstones were from the 1700's and into the 1800's and one section closest to the road had nothing but American Revolutionary Soldiers buried in it who had fought under George Washington other great generals from the American Revolutionary War. The one thing I also noticed was how much detail was on these tombstones stating that the men buried here where they had fought and what battles they had been in and what rank they held. This one particular tombstone interested me as it told the story of a young boy, John Coolbaugh who was born in 1761 and at the age of 15 enlisted in the American Revolutionary War to fight along side his father William Coolbaugh. The tombstone states that they were from Huntington County, New Jersey and fought in the Monmouth battle and other notable campaigns. This was a lucky stop for me and I will be posting more from this visit telling the history of some of these soldiers from the American Revolutionary War, whose tombstones I was lucky to have found.

This photo took me back to a road trip with my parents where we stopped at an old cemetery and learned tons about the history of the small town from the headstones. Thanks for the memory!
