I recently attending a Classic Car Show in West Islip, New York on Long Island whose sponsor was the "Wounded Warrior Project". I had the great opportunity to meet some individuals who have served our country and others who have started the "Wounded Warror Project" a great organization. While walking around this wonderful event I came across this stunning 1968 Volkswagon Dune Buggy Convertible, which had been designed by the famous boat builder and surfer Bruce Meyers, Meyers began producing these cars in 1964 until 1971 and set all types of speed records for desert racing. The company that Meyers started to build these cars went out of business after he left the company and then they ran into tax problems and other financial problems that caused the demise of the company. But this beauty that I was able to view and photograph was in mint condition and look like it had just rolled off the assembly line. The car caught my eye immediately due to its style and color and the front headlights, nice and compact and look like a pleasure to go cruising around in. For more information on Bruce Meyers's creation please feel free to read the information listed below;
The Meyers Manx dune buggy is a small recreationally-oriented automobile, designed initially for desert racing by Californian engineer, artist, boat builder and surfer Bruce F. Meyers. It was produced by his Fountain Valley, California company, B. F. Meyers & Co. from 1964 to 1971, in the form of car kits applied to shortened chassis of Volkswagen Beetles. The car line dominated dune racing in its time, breaking records immediately, and was eventually also released in street-oriented models, until the company's demise due to tax problems after Meyers's departure.[1]:118123 New vehicles inspired by the original Manx buggy have been produced by Meyers's re-founded operation, Meyers Manx, Inc., since 2000.The name and cat logo of the brand derives from the Manx cat, by virtue of the tailless breed's and the shortened vehicle's truncated "stubbiness".
